MARI by Mari Samuelsen is a statement. It explores our longing to feel grounded, to escape into nature, and how that sits with the modern notion of global citizens and the busy, fulfilling lives we wish to lead. This project is an exercise of reconciliation of these two contrasted worlds were music becomes a powerful tool to transport people back in time and space “far from the madding Crowd”. Gliding from works by Johann Sebastian Bach to more contemporary composers as Philip Glass, Max Richter, Peter Gregson, Johann Johannsson, Brian Eno, Pēteris Vasks, Mari Samuelsen sought to contrast our inherent perceptions of modern living with the dreamlike and evocative works of these composer that urge us to live slow.
After a year and a half shaping this project, MARI was recorded with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and conductor Jonathan Stockhammer and released as her debut album with Deutche Gramophon in June 2019.
